Last month was a hell of a year wasn't it?

Many of us will look back at March 2020 for the rest of our careers.

For me, March felt like getting caught in a rip after swimming nothing but laps for years. Frankly, a bit of an SOS moment!

For most companies, HR was there to lead us into calmer waters, and I for one am grateful for it – I’ve never seen my industry work harder or add more value in my life.

HR’s reputation has changed because of CoVid-19. BCV (you know…before covid) many HR teams were struggling to prove their business value beyond the basics. But faced with a sudden, clear problem to solve and we’ve proven ourselves to be of unquestionable value.

So how do we leverage this for a PCV future?

The reason HR is being so successful right now is that we have made a significant shift:

  1. From best practitioner to best problem solver. Is best practice just old practice these days?
  2. From strategic to operational. Operational was a dirty word BCV, but where would we be without it now?
  3. From busy to targeted. By ruthlessly deprioritising HR’s busy work, we’ve been able to focus on a few targeted initiatives and are delivering them really well.

Our mission as HR Leaders is to continue to guide our business through this crisis – and to look ahead at the ones still to come.

And to do that, we cannot afford to let our old habits and mindsets creep back in just because we are starting to stabilise tactically, to settle into our new ways of working.

This isn’t the time to replicate our old world online. It’s the time to leverage our learnings and look ahead – to make sure both HR and the businesses we lead are in an even better position to handle what’s coming next.

What are you doing to re-set rather than re-lapse?
